It’s a Movement.
We’ve all been guilty of thinking coaching is what you turn to when things start to wobble.
Sales are down. Confidence is shot. The business feels heavy.
Then someone says, “Maybe it’s time you got a coach.”
But here’s a thought; that’s like saying you only go to the gym when you’ve pulled a muscle!
Coaching isn’t about fixing what’s broken. It’s about building strength before you need it.
It’s about growth, consistency, and a level of self-awareness that keeps you performing at your best, before things hit the fan.
Look at the gym community Ben Francis built with Gymshark. It’s not about vanity or quick fixes. It’s about camaraderie. Discipline. The small wins that compound into something bigger. Coaching is exactly the same. He talks about this in such an inspiring way in his conversation with Simon Sinek on his podcast show ‘A Bit of Optimism‘.
When you step into a coaching relationship, you’re not admitting weakness. You’re declaring intent. You’re saying, “I want to be better, and I’m willing to be challenged to get there.”
That’s powerful. Because the best performers, in sport, business, or life all have someone in their corner. Someone who can see what they can’t. Someone who holds them accountable to their potential, not just their comfort zone.
Think about it. The top athletes in the world don’t train alone. They have coaches, nutritionists, mindset specialists…a full team behind them.
Yet in business, too many owners still try to bench-press the entire world by themselves.
It’s madness!
Coaching done right is a partnership. You bring the drive. The coach brings the perspective. Together, you build the muscle that keeps you moving forward, even when things get tough.
And just like in the gym, it’s not a one-session wonder. It’s repetition. Reflection. Refinement.
That’s how growth really happens, not through a quick burst of motivation, but through consistent effort, honest feedback, and a bit of sweat.
So if you’re being coached right now, good on you. You’re already on the journey, you’re part of the movement. If you’re not, maybe it’s time to ask why? Because the question isn’t “do I need a coach?” It’s “what could I become if I had one?”
I also recorded a podcast episode for our show ‘Think and Act Differently with Sales Academy’ on this very subject, you can listen and enjoy that here: “If you’re being coached, you’re already on the journey”(or wherever you get your podcasts).
